At the early age of eight, Dr. Virginia Luks had her sights set on becoming an orthodontist like her father, Dr. Eric Luks. She saw how he was having a positive impact on the lives of his patients, while having fun at the same time. She wanted to be able to make that difference in people's lives too.
After completing high school in 1987 at Branksome Hall School in Toronto, Dr. Virginia Luks attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French in 1990. She always knew she wanted to be a dentist but also wanted the opportunity to explore the arts. Having been in a French immersion program from kindergarten to grade 10 in the public school system, choosing French as a major seemed a natural choice.
Dr. Virginia Luks began and completed her dental education in the United States. She attended the School of Dental Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, world renowned for having the most extensive source of longitudinal human growth data. In 1994, she graduated with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree and in 1997 with a Masters of Science degree in Orthodontics. In her graduate orthodontic program, Dr. Luks received the Award for Clinical Excellence.
By examination, Dr. Luks became a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1997 that also qualified her to practice her specialty in Canada. Very early in her professional career, she demonstrated her pursuit of continued clinical proficiency and excellence by embarking on a lengthy examination process to become board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. In 2003, Dr. Virginia Luks became one of the youngest orthodontists to attain Diplomate status in the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Luks was the first woman to be elected to Ontario's Dental Licensing Board, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and served two terms between 2001-2004. In her capacity at the College, she served on both the Registration and Discipline committees.
Dr. Luks thrives on clinical practice and creating new smiles every day. So for over twenty years, that’s what you’ll find her doing.
Dr. Luks is happily married to her favourite French Canadian, Martin Deblois. Together, they enjoy travel, golf and spending lazy days at home with their golden retrievers Rocky and Hudson as well as their orange tabby, Morris.
